Why Every Creative Needs a Content Strategy (Even If You’re Busy)
Let’s be real for a second: being a multi-passionate creative is exciting, but it can also feel like a never-ending to-do list with no off switch. Between my 9-to-5 as a process engineer, running my boutique House of Charlotte, and creating coloring books under SouthernDivaKP, I’d be lying if I said it was easy to consistently show up online.
But here’s what I’ve learned: creating content without a strategy is like trying to cook dinner with no groceries and no recipe. It just doesn’t work.
The Weekend Reset: Planning Content Like a CEO
Lately, I’ve been leaning into what I call my “Weekend Reset.” That’s my time to pause, breathe, and map out my content strategy for the week ahead. And listen, this isn’t about posting just to post. It’s about being intentional with every caption, reel, blog post, and email I put out there.
Instead of scrambling day to day, I now take a couple hours on the weekend to plan:
•What do I want to promote?
•What new arrivals are dropping?
•What blog post is going live?
•What’s happening in my real life that I can share?
When I take the time to plan it out in advance, I feel more in control, and way less overwhelmed.
How We Strategize Around Sales (Without Being Salesy)
One thing I’m proud of? The content strategy we’ve been building for the past two weeks has been rooted in more than just aesthetic vibes. It’s been strategic, focused on driving real traffic and real sales, without sacrificing personality.
Each week, I start by reviewing my monthly sales goals and product focus areas (hello, fall arrivals and game day tees!). Then I break it down into:
•What’s launching this week?
•Which products need more visibility?
•What blog post or coloring book is being promoted?
From there, we map out:
•Emails: What’s the hook? What value does it offer?
•Texts (for HOC): Short, clear, and urgent.
•Instagram/Facebook/Threads/Pinterest: A mix of product features, lifestyle content, affirmations, and blog tie-ins.
It’s not just about staying active, it’s about staying aligned with what matters right now.
The Creative Juggle Is Real (But Strategy Helps)
Trying to balance a corporate career while growing two creative brands is no joke. There are days when I come home from work mentally drained, and the idea of writing a caption or editing a product listing feels like too much.
But here’s the truth: when I’ve already got a plan in place, I’m not scrambling. I’m executing. That difference saves my energy, keeps me consistent, and makes this whole dream-chasing thing a little more manageable.
Final Thoughts
So, if you’re a busy creative like me, juggling all the things, don’t underestimate the power of a solid content strategy. It’s not about being perfect. It’s about being intentional.
Block off some time this weekend. Pour your favorite drink. Light a candle. And map out your content for the week. You’ll thank yourself on Tuesday when you’re not fighting with Canva or stuck in caption limbo.
Your future self will be proud, and your business will thank you for it.
